Guide

A simple structure for remote work

Published July 10, 2026 · About 6 minutes · Educational information only

A common remote-work problem is the feeling that the day never ends. This guide offers a three-block framework so you can start without building a complex system. Results vary by person; the goal is a clear starting point.

1. Split the day into three blocks

  • Deep work block: Focused tasks that need fewer interruptions (writing, design, code).
  • Communication block: Email, messaging, and meetings.
  • Close-out block: Prepare tomorrow, save files, and simplify the task list.

Adjust block lengths to your pace. The key is not trying to do every type of work at once.

2. Keep one “today” list

One daily list is enough. Choose at most three priorities. Move unfinished items to a “later” box so the list stays manageable.

3. Simplify what you see

Keep only the folders and files you need for today on your desktop. Limiting open tabs intentionally can reduce distraction.

4. Add a short close-out ritual

At the end of the day, spend about 10 minutes on:

  • Marking completed work
  • Writing tomorrow’s first task
  • Turning off or silencing notifications
